Myrtle “Mickie” Elwell, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, Vermont.

Sandra W. Thurston first came into this world on April 21, 1941, the daughter of Doris (Rankin) Wimble and Owen Wimble Sr. Surrounded by her children, she passed away August 8, 2024.

William (Bill) T. Doyle, a cherished member of the Washington County community, passed away on August 15, 2024, at the age of 98, at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield. A longtime educator and public servant, Doyle was Vermont's longest-serving state senator having represented Washington County for 48 years.

Lois Marie (Stevens) Atwood, 73, born on September 12, 1948 in Berlin, Vermont, passed away peacefully at her home in Morrisville on Friday, August 13, 2021, in the presence of her family and life partner David Spear.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dean E. Thurston, age 68. Dean was born July 11, 1953 in Burlington, Vt., the son of Donald and Eloise (Marshall) Thurston. Dean was a 1971 graduate of Harwood Union High School.

John P. (Jack) Carter passed on peacefully at home on June 21, 2021 at the age of 75.  Jack was born on June 28, 1945 in Windsor, Vermont, the son of Nick and Ruth Carter, and the youngest brother of Sherm and Taylor (Jim). He is regarded affectionately by many as “The Mayor of Stowe Street.”

Funeral notice: Friends and family of Pauline R. Hodgdon are invited to attend her funeral service at St. Andrew’s Church in Waterbury, at 11 a.m. on July 31. A reception will follow in the church hall after the service. There are no calling hours and there will be no graveside service. Pauline passed away at her home in Waterbury on March 5, 2021.

Martha M. Lewis, 89, passed away peacefully at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin on Thursday, May 13, 2021. Born in Burlington on Sept. 27, 1931, the daughter of the late James A. Mack Sr. and Isabelle (Smith) Mack, she married Paul B. Lewis on April 7, 1956. For more than two decades she ran the namesake Martha Lewis Antique shop on Stowe Street.

Gordon P. Johnson of Waterbury Center, Vt., passed away peacefully on February 25, 2021 in Berlin at the Central Vermont Medical Center at the age of 90.

Dale E. Lowcock, 71, passed away at his home in Waterbury on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Born in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on Sept. 2, 1948, he was the son of the late George E. and Verna (Jacobs) Lowcock. 

Warren A. Nelson, son of Harold and Esther Nelson, died on July 12, 2020 at age 89.

Just over a week ago, Waterbury lost a beloved resident. On Friday, June 19, 2020, George Chilafoux passed away at Central Vermont Medical Center. He was 86 years old.
