Karleen Joyce Santor. 1945-2024

Karleen Joyce Santor of Waterbury, Vermont, passed away at her home on May 24, 2024, after a brief illness.

She was born in Burlington, Vermont, on January 30, 1945, to Clarence Santor and Jessie Stank.

A graduate of Waterbury High School in 1963, she enrolled and graduated from Houle’s Beauty Academy in Manchester, New Hampshire. After returning to Waterbury and her family, she started working at Richard’s in Stowe as a hairdresser, an occupation she enjoyed and had a talent for. She continued her work as a hairdresser for more than 30 years in Stowe, Waterbury, Montpelier and in Florida.

She moved to Florida around 1997 to be near her mother, Jessie. There, she took on a few more jobs as a hostess in the restaurant industry, and as a home healthcare provider. She returned home to Vermont one more time in 2006.

She was a shy person, but a loving mother, daughter and sister. Her main passion in life was cooking. She would occasionally try something new but would always return to the basics. Simpler is better!

Her other hobbies included knitting, counted cross stitch, reading and in the last 10-15 years of her life, genealogy. She helped a long list of people find out about their family history. She was good at it and she enjoyed putting together the pieces and building the puzzles.

She is survived by her son Bill of Duxbury, her sister Susanne of Bolton, sister-in-law Belinda of Underhill, and her lifelong dear friend, Becky Rutledge of Vermont and Florida.

Please consider a donation to the Central Vermont Humane Society in her memory.

As such a shy person, she wouldn’t want a fuss made about herself, so there will be no services. Arrangements are through the A.W. Rich Funeral Home in Fairfax and Essex Jct.
