Rick Aldrich, 1945-2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Rick) Joseph Aldrich, who left us on February 1, 2025, at the age of 79. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Rick’s warmth, strength, and love for his family will be deeply missed.

Born in Hastings, Nebraska, Rick moved to Vermont at an early age and quickly became a true Vermonter at heart. A gifted athlete, he was a three-sport all-star at Barre’s Spaulding High School, where he showcased his talents on the field and court. His passion for baseball led him to the University of Vermont, where he excelled as a catcher, earning accolades both at UVM and in the prestigious Cape Cod Summer League, where his talent behind the plate was undeniable.

It was on Cape Cod in 1967 that Rick met the love of his life, Linda McTygue. Together, they built a life filled with love, adventure, and unwavering devotion. He spent his career as a project manager, contributing to major construction projects across Vermont, leaving a lasting impact on the communities he helped shape.

An avid outdoorsman, Rick found joy in hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and, of course, baseball. Whether in the woods, on the water, or at the ballpark, he embraced life with a quiet confidence and a deep appreciation for the natural world.

Above all, his greatest love was his family. He was a dedicated and supportive husband to Linda and a proud father to Robert, Julie and James. Rick’s greatest joy came from coaching, guiding and sharing his love of sports and the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. His presence whether through a warm hug, an encouraging word, or a knowing smile was the steady foundation of his family’s life.

Rick was predeceased by his parents Robert and Gloria, and his sister Sandra.  In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by his brothers Pete and Tom, children Robert (Liz), Julie (Eric), and James (Michelle), as well as his grandchildren Robert, Emily, Ashley, Tobiana, Lily, Joseph, Jackson and Jesslyn.

Rick’s funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Springfield, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to PSC Partners Seeking a Cure.

Rick’s life was one well-lived and his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
