Richard R. Hoisington, 1947-2024

Richard R. Hoisington, 77, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. He was born on July 2, 1947, in Montpelier, the son of the late Derald Fay and Pauline (Irish) Hoisington.

He grew up in Moretown, attending the Moretown Common one-room school and Waitsfield High School. At age 16 he worked weekends parking cars at Sugarbush Ski Resort. Damon Gadd and Jack Murphy were determined to harness his endless energy and began teaching him the business, how to run a bulldozer, backhoe, and transit. He learned how to repair everything, and worked in the office, finally promoting him to Mountain Manager.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, working with his hands, landscaping, and repairing cars and equipment.

In the mid-1980s Richard was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which resulted in countless bouts of pneumonia, followed by diabetes, congestive heart failure, kidney failure, and the loss of both legs. We come to the world without our consent and go out against our will. Even though he was tough, his body decided it was time to join his loved ones who went before him. For those of us who have been left behind, we have put in a requisition for a unique, clever, quick-witted, funny man in hopes that it will take away some of the sting from his loss.

Richard is loved and mourned by one son, one granddaughter, one sister, one uncle, five nieces, four nephews, ten cousins, and many friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents Zoe and Raymond Irish who raised him, his mother Pauline, father Derald, brothers Douglas and Darcy Griffith, a beloved granddaughter Alli, and a cousin Mike.

Please join the family on Friday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury for a time of visitation followed by a service at 7:30 p.m. Richard will be cremated and placed in the family plot in Mountain View Cemetery in Moretown at a later date. For those who wish, memorial contributions can be made to your local food shelf in Richard's memory. To send online condolences please visit  perkinsparker.com.
