Mark Edward Swahn. 1966-2024

Mark Edward Swahn, 58, of Jericho, Vermont, passed away on November 21, 2024. He was born in Rutland, Vermont, on June 19, 1966, to the late Charles and Muriel (Duprey) Swahn. He grew up in Proctor, Vermont, with a loving family and many childhood friends. Many hours were spent on a sports field, riding a bike, or hunting with his father. Mark graduated from Proctor High School in 1985 and joined the workforce in the automotive industry.

Mark married the love of his life, Shelley Hyjek in 1992 at St. Peter’s Parish in Rutland. He and Shelley settled in West Bolton, Vermont, where they raised their two sons, Colin Edward Swahn and Kurtis Mark Swahn. Many happy memories were formed playing games and traveling across the state attending multiple sporting events. Mark also had a soft spot for his many furry friends, treating each of them like valuable family members.

Although Mark started out working in the automotive industry, his greatest passion was when he transitioned to work as a paraprofessional at Brookside Primary School 18 years ago. The Brookside community became his second family. Mark also spent many years coaching soccer, baseball and basketball, sharing his knowledge, patience and love of sports with numerous youths. He continued to love hunting and being active outdoors until the day he passed.

Remaining to cherish Mark’s memory are his wife Shelley, his sons Colin and Kurtis Swahn, his brother David Swahn, sisters Charlene Hibbard and Lori Amerio, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Perkins-Parker Funeral Home, 48 South Main Street, Waterbury. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 1 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 50 South Main Street, Waterbury.

Given his love for all of his furry friends, donations in Mark’s memory may be directed to Burlington Emergency & Veterinary Specialists in Williston.
