Marcel Robert Mongeur, 1951-2025

Marcel Robert Mongeur, 73, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. Born on July 18, 1951 in Montpelier, he was the son of the late Robert D. and Doris F. (Raymond) Mongeur. He married Diane Lemery on August 18, 1984, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Waterbury.

Marcel grew up in Waterbury and graduated from Harwood Union High School in 1969. After high school, he worked briefly for the White–Evans & Day Chemical Company. On March 30, 1971, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. Marcel was very proud of his service to his country during the Vietnam War. When he returned to Waterbury, he joined the National Guard for a short period. Marcel worked at the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post # 59 as a bartender for 11 years and then went to work for Silo–Alcazar Records in Waterbury for 10 years. He retired from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters in 2016, having been employed there for 15 years.

Marcel enjoyed trips to the casinos, reading, going out to eat, and his E-Z chair. He also cherished spending time with loyal friends and family.

Marcel was a member of the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post #59, the former VFW Post 1034, and the Waterbury Area Senior Center.

He will be missed by his wife of 40 years, Diane Mongeur of Waterbury; his sister Shirley Dow and her husband David, of Waterbury Center; and his brother, Rocky Mongeur of Barre; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family. A brother, Edward Mongeur, predeceased him.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Duxbury on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at St. Leo’s Parish Hall in Waterbury.
