Sally Alice Conway, 1939-2024

Our beloved Sally Alice Conway passed away peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s on May 16, 2024, in Essex, Vermont. Sally was born in Sacramento, California, on October 27, 1939, to George Conway and Kathleen Greenwood.

She lived in Sacramento until high school, then attended Principia Boarding School in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating in 1957. She then attended UC Berkeley where she was in AOPi sorority and graduated in 1961 with her BA in Social Work, later she attended the University of Connecticut where she received her master’s in social work. It was at UC Berkeley that she met her husband Donald Kendall, they married soon after graduating and moved to Long Beach, California.

Sally leaves two daughters, Christine Kendall and spouse Doug Frauenholz, Claire Kendall and spouse Jeffrey Rothenberg, grandchildren Sasha Corde and spouse Rich Corde, Casey Rothenberg, Ryan Frauenholz, Molly Frauenholz, and great-granddaughter Michaela Corde; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, George and Katheleen, and sisters Patricia Wraith and Nancy Cuddeback.

Sally worked as a social worker and was very active in her clinical practice for most of her career. She also furthered her education at the University of Connecticut to get her Masters in Horticulture. Sally’s passion for all plants and flowers guided her throughout her life. She also loved animals and donated to animal causes regularly. Her love of the arts, classical music, jazz, and theatre was a constant.

Sally later moved to Northampton, Massachusetts, where she was surrounded by the arts as well as gardening, which occupied much of her time, as well as being an avid reader and active in local politics. Sally also volunteered for her local churches in Northampton and then later in Waterbury, Vermont. She relocated to Waterbury where she lived for two years and thoroughly enjoyed the sense of community and support she received from residents and neighbors alike.

Sally’s immediate family will be celebrating her life later this summer in a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, Vermont Chapter, 75 Talbott Rd., Suite 40, Williston, VT, 05495 or Home Share VT.
