Kristy Lee Bowen. 1986-2025
Kristy Lee (Durand) Bowen was born September 20, 1986, to Raymond Durand and Tammi Green (Luce), in Waterbury, Vermont. With her chubby cheeks, she won the hearts of anyone around her.
Kristy spent her early years wrapped around her Daddy’s finger and took pride in being “Daddy’s little girl.” At 6 years old, Kristy became a big sister for the first time and took her job very seriously. A few weeks later, on May 4, 1993, Kristy was with her father in a boating accident, taking his life. Kristy struggled with this over the course of her life. At age 10, she became a big sister again and continued to be there for both of her sisters through their entire lives, helping to shape and mold the women and mothers they both are.
Throughout high school, where she attended Twinfield Union, and in her adult life, Kristy was an avid writer and a very talented artist. She enjoyed painting and drawing and her art nights with her daughter. She was known by her classmates as kind, funny and dependable. Many times there were friends of hers who spent days or weeks at her house, just because it felt like home.
In 2008, Kristy joined the National Guard and served nine dutiful years. During her first year of service in 2009, she welcomed her first baby, her pride and joy, and “the savior to her life,” Emma Rae. Kristy put her daughter first and always did everything she ever could to give her everything. She was a lifetime member of the Morrisville VFW Auxiliary.
Through the military, she met and fell in love with the love of her life, Travis Bowen. He took her and her daughter into his family with sons Peyton and Andrew, and gave them everything she ever dreamed of. Together, they created a home, a farmstead, a family.
In 2014, Kristy welcomed her second pride and joy, her Bubbas, Matthew Lucius. In 2018, Miss Evelynn Grace completed their family.
Kristy overcame many struggles in her life. She pushed and shoved her way up from the bottom to create the life she always wanted. One of the things she overcame, with the help of her husband and stepfather Stephen Luce was fishing. Afraid of boats, she went on her first deep-sea fishing trip, catching the biggest fish of the day most days. She was most recently proud of her 72 lb. Yellowfin tuna she caught while taking her dream vacation to Maui in February.
Kristy enjoyed life with her family, her dogs, drinking with friends, vacations, and the beach. She loved watching her children grow and thrive. Kristy was not afraid to get down and dirty and get the job done. She did whatever she needed and whatever was asked of her.
Kristy was the greatest Te-Te to her nieces and nephews; she had a special relationship with them all, and they knew they could count on her for anything.
Kristy leaves behind her husband, Travis; stepsons Andrew Bowen and Peyton Bowen; her daughters Emma Rae and Evelynn Grace; her son Matthew Lucius; her mother and stepfather, Tammi and Steve Luce; sisters Amanda Durand (Ethan) and Kayla Churchill Miner (John-Walter); her brother-in-law Scott; sister-in-law Melissa; her mother-in-law Cathy; and her father-in-law Jim.
Kristy was predeceased by her father Raymond Durand; her beloved Auntie, Marijane Barber; her grandmother Jane Green; her grandfathers; and her father-in-law Dale Bowen.
Services will be held on Sunday, May 4, at 11 a.m., graveside for family, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 3 p.m. at the Morrisville VFW. Kristy will share the date with her Daddy, as well as his final resting place, as she always wanted.
Memorial donations in Kristy’s name can be made to the Morrisville VFW Auxiliary, 28 VFW St., Morrisville, VT 05661.
