He leaves his wife of 49 years, Betsy Austin of Waterbury Center, daughters Linn Caroleo of Richmond, Vermont, and Ingri Enger Damon of Oslo, Norway; son Lee Damon of Chalfont, Pennsylvania; and daughter Cassandra Damon of Waterbury Center.

Larry leaves his grandchildren: Johannes and Edvard Brun of Oslo, Norway, and Ryker and Claire Damon of Chalfont, Pennsylvania.

A graduate of the University of Vermont, Larry was a four-time Olympic skier representing the United States in Nordic and biathlon. An accomplished distance runner, he had a 10th-place finish in the 1962 Boston Marathon. Larry won the Norwegian national sailing championship in the snipe class in 1968. These, and his many other athletic achievements, are documented on the internet.

Larry was an avid member of the Stowe Bike Club. He was a fixture of the Trapp Family Lodge ski program and loved his 43 years there as a director and ski instructor.

Above sports, Larry's greatest love was jazz, having seen many jazz greats in the 1950s and ’60s. His beloved jazz band Z-Jazz played for 10 years throughout Central Vermont with Larry on the jazz cornet until the Covid years. “Jazzioke” brought many local singers much pleasure throughout Central Vermont. To honor Larry, listen to your favorite tunes by Chet Baker, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie or your own jazz favorites.

A celebration of Larry's life will take place in the spring. The family would appreciate donations made in Larry's name to Jenna’s Promise, P.O. Box 575, Johnson, VT 05656.
