Obituary: Timothy Frank Atwood

May 8, 1962  –  April 18, 2025

Timothy Frank Atwood, 1962-2025

Timothy “Tim” Atwood, 62, of Barre, Vermont, passed away unexpectedly on April 18, 2025.

Born on May 8, 1962, in Montpelier, Vermont, Tim was the beloved son of Eleanor Atwood (Smith) of Richmond, Vermont, and the late Donald C. Atwood. He began his career in the cheese industry at the Richmond Creamery and later dedicated over 20 years to Cabot Creamery, where he built lasting friendships and took pride in his work.

Tim was known for his love of the outdoors and his passion for classic rock music. He found joy in spending time at camp — hunting, four-wheeling, target-shooting, and clearing trails with his chainsaw. He loved playing cribbage, fishing, and was always up for a good game of darts or pool. Over the years, he played in several dart leagues and looked forward to the annual horseshoe tournament at Matt Butler’s camp, where he was proud to be on this year’s winning team.

He enjoyed dancing and listening to live music, especially at the Waterbury park and local bars. Classic rock from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s filled his playlists. He also enjoyed attending auto races in Loudon, New Hampshire, with friends, and could often be found enjoying the camaraderie at the American Legion in Waterbury.

Tim was an avid NFL fan and a devoted supporter of the Seattle Seahawks. Football Sundays were a favorite time for him, and he never missed a chance to cheer on his team.

He is survived by his loving mother, Eleanor Atwood; his siblings, Barbara Atwood, William Atwood and his wife Sharmayne, and Linda Way and her husband Timothy. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews with whom he shared countless hours at camp, four-wheeling, and enjoying the outdoors.

Tim’s life was also deeply enriched by the friendship of many, including Bob Martin and Bob Durham, whose companionship meant the world to him.

A graveside service will be held on May 9, at 2 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Richmond.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Tim’s name to Waterbury Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 95, Waterbury Center, VT 05677, in appreciation of their care and efforts.
