Scott L. Wood, 59, of Waterbury, passed from this world on March 29, 2024.
When Scott was 11 he suffered a spinal cord injury that changed the course of his life. The results from this injury posed many challenges for Scott throughout his lifetime, but he never let them define who he was. Scott exhibited more grit and determination in his daily life than many people do in their entire lifetimes.
Scott had a keen intellect and a wicked and sometimes inappropriate sense of humor. He enjoyed a good debate about almost any topic. He enjoyed some of the simple things in life like sitting on his front porch and talking with neighbors and passersby. His daughter, Ashley, was the light of his life, and they enjoyed many outings and adventures together. He loved going on “ride-arounds” with his dad and the annual trip to the fair with his sister to enjoy some good old greasy fair food, as well as sharing time in the kitchen with his mother.
He was an expert on Elvis Presley’s life, songs, movies and business decisions. Scott was also an avid history enthusiast. And while Scott had an opinion on many things, he was also such a good listener and provided counsel to those who asked.
Scott was a 1982 graduate of Harwood Union High School and a 1986 graduate of St. Michael’s College, where he obtained a business degree. He was a member of the Waterbury Historical Society, Waterbury American Legion, and supporter of the Waterbury Ambulance Service who were always there in his times of need.
Scott is survived by his daughter, Ashley Wood and grandson, Hunter Scott Wood; his father, Gordon Wood and his wife, Theresa; his sister and best friend, Penny Walker and her husband, Josh; his mother, Gaila Perry, and many aunts, uncles and cousins, several of whom he shared special relationships with. He will also be missed by a longtime friend, Regan Demasi. He was previously married to Cintra (Dee) Wood.
Contributions in memory of Scott may be made to the Waterbury Ambulance Service’s building fund. Burial services are private.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life in honor of Scott on Sunday, May 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Waterbury American Legion Post 59, at 16 Stowe St.
