On June 17-18, the General Assembly will convene for a veto session. We will be considering voting to override up to seven bills that Gov. Phil Scott vetoed over the last several weeks. I will be voting to override each and every one of these vetoes.

The General Assembly is gearing up for a difficult end to the biennium, and of the many issues tightening the screws on our society, housing remains at the top of the list.

To the Community: I want to thank the number of my neighbors who have written emails or posts to Front Porch Forum with their thoughts on the proposal for using the Waterbury Armory for a congregate shelter for up to 50 individuals who are experiencing homelessness.

The legislative session came to a close at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12. Needless to say, the rush to the end was full of tension, last-minute negotiations, and promises of vetoes by the administration. In other words, pretty normal for the Vermont General Assembly.

To the Community: I voted "yes" to override the veto on S.5, the Affordable Heat Act, a bill intended to help Vermonters transition away from fossil fuel heating.

It was an extremely busy week on the floor of the House. Called “Crossover Week,” we considered a number of bills that are priorities for this session. Bills passed by the House at this point head to the Senate for their consideration, and we will receive bills from the Senate for our consideration as we head into the last third of the session.

Waterbury’s legislative districts remain intact
Gov. Phil Scott on April 6 signed H.722 which updates Vermont’s districts of the House of Representatives and the senatorial districts of the Senate.
