Rep. Stevens: ‘An honor and a privilege’ to be re-elected

November 6, 2024

To the voters in Waterbury, Huntington, Bolton and Buel's Gore:

Thank you for reelecting me as your state representative. It remains an honor and a privilege to represent you. Taking a quick look backward, I can honestly say I never believed I would have this opportunity to help you connect with the resources you’ve needed, to hear your stories, to listen to your concerns and to have you shape the work we do in Montpelier. Representing is not only about working on your behalf to make this beautiful state a place where we can live, work and play. I have strived to make sure you have a seat at the table, and to make sure your voice was heard. And on your behalf, I have led on policies that are important to you: housing, equity, child care, economic and climate justice, public safety and education. I would not have been able to do this without your support and your votes.

Thank you.

I’m not sure what is ahead. The results of the national election are unsettling to me, and I have promised myself to reach deeply into what I believe and to secure my core beliefs, in order to continue to do the work you’ve elected me to do. I am inviting you to stay in conversation with me throughout the next two years. We have a lot to do, together, and we will need your help.

And while the political landscape has changed in this state, I promise that this year I will focus on making this place somewhere we can all call home, where our families can make it work, where we show up for each other. When we all do better, we all do better.

While we, as politicians and legislators, commit to the work, we are neither the sole source of the problems or the providers of solutions to those problems. But don’t get me wrong: the work matters. Please continue to join me in a conversation about our future, about your family’s future and what is possible when we hear each other.
