The 2025 legislative session has already entered its second month and committees are busy with a multitude of bills. Here are some highlights from the first few weeks and links to some key measures you may want to follow in the weeks ahead.

Rep. Wood: Adjourned with education changes, and election on the horizon
The regular session of the 2024 Legislature adjourned Saturday, May 11, at just past 2 a.m. A variety of bills passed in the last week and are headed to the governor’s office for his decision to sign, let pass into law without his signature, or to veto.

Legislative report: Bill would end flavored e-cigarettes, menthol cigarettes
The legislature is considering S.18 – an act related to banning certain flavored tobacco products and e-liquids.

As most people know by now, over the last couple of weeks the town of Waterbury, including your state representatives, were made aware of a proposed shelter for people experiencing homelessness at the site of the former armory building. We did not have any advance warning of this proposal.

The beginning of the 2024 legislative session has started with all committees picking up right where they left off last spring. Legislators and onlookers all commented that the first two weeks were the busiest first weeks of a session in many years.

By the time this article is in your inbox or your mailbox the legislature will have convened for what is called a “veto session.” During this time, the House and Senate reconsider bills that the governor has vetoed. This year, among those bills is a critical child care bill – H.217.
