The Stowe Nordic Ski Club offers programs and events for all levels of skiers. The programs are fun, a great value, and thanks to the training and coaching provided, have helped many a skier to improve their technique and enhance their enjoyment of the sport.

Registration is currently open for the Wednesday Women’s Program and the Bill Koch League Youth program.  (The Monday Masters Group led by Olympian Trina Hosmer is full.) All programs are held at the Trapp Outdoor Center in Stowe.  To participate in these community programs, you must be a current member of Stowe Nordic Club and have a Trapp ski pass.

Women’s Program

The Women’s Program starts Jan. 3 and runs for 10 weeks led by Craftsbury master skier Gina Campoli and assistant coach Carol Van Dyke.  The primary focus is on classic ski technique for advanced beginners through intermediate skiers to improve skills and fitness - all in a supportive setting with social comradery.  There will be sessions on the fundamentals of kicking and gliding, uphill and downhill, and increasing speed and efficiency while having fun on skis.

Bill Koch League

This youth program starts Dec. 19 for skiers in kindergarten through 8th grade. It meets at Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-4:40 p.m. Youth skiers will sign up for EITHER Tuesday OR Thursday. Group sizes are capped to 40 participants on each day.  This program includes a family Stowe Nordic membership and a Trapp season pass for the participant.

Practice usually begins with skill-building games and drills and ends with some free ski time in ability-specific groups. The primary goals are to introduce the sport of Nordic skiing to beginners, advance the skills and technique of developing skiers, and most importantly to nurture the enjoyment and love of Nordic skiing as a lifetime sport.

Key to the program’s success are parent volunteers who can commit to weekly involvement to work with the same group of 6-8 skiers. You don’t have to be an expert skier – just promote enthusiasm while leading a group on the trails and playing games on skis.

More information on both programs is online at StoweNordic.org/programs

Tour de Stowe: Jan. 20

The Tour de Stowe is a non-competitive classic technique ski tour taking place Saturday, Jan. 20, on the gorgeous trails of Trapp Family Lodge and Stowe Mountain Resort cross-country centers.  There is a choice of 25K or 15K distances starting and ending at the Trapp Outdoor Center as well as a kids 5K course starting at the Trapp Outdoor Center with treats at the finish line.

The event includes a trail pass and food station stop along the route.  And at the end, a celebratory reception for adults with food and two beer tickets is co-hosted by the New England Nordic Ski Association, Stowe Nordic and Trapp’s at the Von Trapp Bierhall.

All profits from this event will go to Stowe Nordic Foundation and will be used exclusively to support Nordic youth ski programs in Vermont.

More information and registration is online at  skireg.com/Tour-de-Stowe.
