Mad River spring soccer sign-ups are open

Registration is open now for Mad River Valley Soccer’s spring travel youth soccer program.

Each spring, the Mad River Valley Soccer Association provides a competitive soccer program for youth players from the Mad River Valley and Waterbury areas.

The spring travel program participates in the Vermont Soccer League. Games begin the first weekend in May, and the last games typically are played in mid-June. Teams practice at Mad River Park in Waitsfield, usually with two practices per week.

Registration for spring travel soccer is open through Feb. 10. After that date, there is no guarantee of a spot once registration closes, according to organizers.

The spring program is part of the Vermont Soccer Association which follows the U.S. Youth Soccer organization rules and requirements. Each player must provide proof of age (birth certificate or passport) and a photo.

Teams are organized based on birth year, not a player’s grade in school. For example, a fourth grader born in 2013 would play U12, while a fourth grader born in 2014 would play U10. The team levels and birth years are:

  • U10: 2014-2015

  • U12: 2012-2013

  • U14: 2010-2011

  • U16: 2008-2009

Coaches will create rosters if there are enough players to form multiple teams in an age group.

Mad River Soccer encourages multi-sport athletes to play spring soccer. Players are expected to attend at least one practice per week and most games. Practices are scheduled based on field availability.

The registration fee is $150 per player and scholarships are available. For more information, email: registrar.mrvsa@gmail.com.
