To the Community:

We say NO to billionaire Elon Musk having all of our personal private information and full access to the U.S. Treasury computer system.

No to our Medicare and Social Security information at his fingertips with free reign to do what he wants as part of his slash-and-burn tactics.

We say no to the president usurping the funds that Congress directed to be spent on programs that help us all, in order to fund tax cuts for the most wealthy.

We say no to the firing of thousands of federal workers and the full-scale dismantling of agencies and departments that work on behalf of everyday citizens.

We say no to the chaos and real harm we have seen in the last few weeks.

There are more than 7,000 federal workers in Vermont at risk of losing their jobs. Already nonprofit organizations in Vermont are laying off workers or shutting down due to Congressionally mandated funding being withheld by the president.

On Friday, Jan. 31, Sen. Welch convened an online forum to assess the impacts so far of federal government actions in Vermont. Read his news release about that forum here.

Members of Indivisible Mad River Valley and Indivisible Calais met with staff at Sens. Peter Welch and Bernie Sanders’ offices on Feb. 6 and Indivisible Camel’s Hump visited Sen. Welch’s office on Feb. 5. Other Vermont Indivisible groups have been calling and writing our senators. Indivisible groups across the nation are taking the same actions to impress upon our senators and representatives that we are in crisis as a country. Swift and bold action needs to be taken to stop the illegal and immoral actions being committed by the current administration.

At Sen. Welch’s office, Senior Advisor Ryan McLaren and Business Liaison Fauna Hurley listened seriously to our members. Sen. Sanders’ State Director Kathryn Van Haste also met us with seriousness. While we have always appreciated the work that these senators do on our behalf, we made it clear that we need them to do more NOW. We must treat this moment as the crisis it is.

Senator Welch’s staff advised us that if we, or other Vermonters have personal stories to share of how the new administration’s actions have affected us, we should send them to him via this form on his website.
