Dear Waterbury community,

My name is Kelley Hackett and I am running for re-election to the Harwood Unified Union School District School Board.

I have been a Waterbury resident for the last 18 years and a lifelong Vermonter. My husband and I moved here from Chittenden County for the small town, lovely schools, and incredible community. We have three children: a sophomore at Harwood Union High School, an eighth grader who attends Crossett Brook Middle School, and a second grader at Brookside Primary School. I own and operate my own business, a private home-based preschool program that is an Act 166 partner. I am vested in our children, community, and schools.

As a Snelling institute for Government graduate for early childhood leaders, I have focused on the complexities of systems and their impact on the educational landscape. Through this work I have learned while many systems work well, others need to change over time in order to continue to grow.

I have been honored to have served on the school board for the last three years. During my time on the board, I was an intricate part of both the Brookside principal hire and the superintendent search and hiring committee. Over the past year, we have begun some very difficult work in our district; revising our Restraint and Seclusion policy, building trust across our district, and supporting the success of our new superintendent and chief finance officer. Additionally, I am currently the vice chair of the board. I am running for re-election for one year as this will allow continuity for the board and for the new administrative leadership's continued success with a smooth transition.

As a Waterbury representative, I’m committed to serving our district by showing up and doing the difficult work that requires time and dedication. I am willing to make the tough decisions not only for Waterbury but for our entire district. As a representative, I have the utmost respect for fellow board members and will bring my best self forward to represent and support our district and students. I am asking again for your support on Town Meeting Day by voting for me to continue serving on the Harwood Unified Union School District’s School Board.

Thank you.

Kelley Hackett
