The Stowe Street Alley Committee invites the community to come to the “Brick Walk” event to have a look between 10 a.m. and noon as the ropes come down. The public can check out the new surface paved with bricks engraved with messages from a project fundraiser and new plantings recently added. Those who bought bricks can look for theirs. There’s even a game called “Hot Lava” — we’re told it’s totally safe.

There’ll be music by TURNmusic and the unveiling of a special mural by Sarah-Lee Terrat in honor of the project’s namesake, former Stowe Street Emporium owner Jack Carter.

Fundraising continues for the project with a June 14 deadline to raise $20,000 to unlock a state Better Places matching grant that could provide an additional $40,000. More than $15,000 has been raised so far.

The Stowe Street Alley Project is a collaboration of the Waterbury Rotary Club, Revitalizing Waterbury, Makersphere, Waterbury Arts, property owners, business owners and community members.

More recent coverage of the project can be found here.
