Make reservations now for 20th annual Thanksgiving Dinner for seniors

A Thanksgiving tradition continues this year and marks a milestone as volunteers prepare for the 20th annual Thanksgiving dinner for area seniors.
The free holiday meal will be served starting at noon on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, at the Waterbury Area Senior Center at 14 Stowe Street.
Local senior residents age 65+ are invited to attend with up to four family members. Dinner is served free of charge to all thanks to generous donations from area residents and businesses.
The event has been held each year for the past two decades (except for a COVID-19 hiatus) as a way to thank seniors for their contributions to making Waterbury and its surrounding communities the caring and supportive places that they are, explained lead organizer Albert Caron, owner of Waterbury Service Center. Caron started organizing the holiday dinners in 2003.
Seniors may attend in person or arrange for pick up of dinners. In either case, reservations for both dining in and take-out meals must be made by calling the Senior Center by Monday, Nov. 25, at 802-244-1234. Volunteers serving meals on Thanksgiving will not be able to deliver meals or accommodate walk-ins who have not placed an order.
All of the meal preparations, cooking, serving, decorating and cleaning up are done by volunteers. Both monetary and food donations from local businesses and individuals support the event. In addition, organizers also prepare small gifts to distribute to each of the seniors who attend.
Anyone wishing to support the dinner with monetary or food donations or unwrapped gifts for seniors should contact Caron at 802-244-7202 or Marge Gulyas at 802-793-0879.
