November 15 marks the start of its own season in many communities across Vermont including Waterbury – the Winter Overnight Parking Ban season.

But, given the mild weather to date and the current extended forecast without any snow, Municipal Manager Tom Leitz said enforcement of the ban will be off to a slow start.

“While the Town parking ban is officially in effect, given the warm weather and lack of snow vehicles will not be towed,” he said.

Residents are asked to heed the weather forecasts and to obey the ban once wintry weather sets in. “The intent of the ban is to allow our Public Works Department to clear the roads safely and efficiently,” Leitz said.

The ban calls for no street parking between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. Vehicles parked overnight during that timeframe will be subject to towing.

Once winter conditions are under way, downtown residents in need of an off-street location to park, may use the parking lot at the large municipal garage on Armory Avenue behind Brookside Primary School. (Between High Street and Hillcrest Terrace.)

The lot at 51 South Main Street is not an overnight parking location any longer given that construction activity is expected to commence there in December, Leitz noted.

Anyone whose vehicle is towed due to the ban should call 802-434-4797 for more information on getting it returned.

The parking ban remains in effect through April 15, 2025.
