Basketball season is just around the corner and registration is open for Harwood Youth Basketball league for players in grades 1-6.

The league invites families from Waterbury, Duxbury and the Mad River Valley to sign up by Oct. 15.

Fees are $75 per player for grades 1-2 and $125 for grades 3-6. Fees cover insurance, equipment, referees, and uniforms that players may keep. Scholarships are available.

Practices will begin in early November. Games schedules will be created in early November and games will start in late November-early December. The season runs until the week before February school break.

Players are organized into boys and girls teams by grade: 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6.

Teams for players in grades 1-4 are split into Valley teams and Waterbury teams to reduce travel. Waterbury teams will practice at Brookside Primary School and Valley teams will practice at Waitsfield/Moretown/Fayston schools. Teams for grades 5-6 will practice at Crossett Brook Middle School.

Teams for grades 1-2 do not have formal games beyond their one weekly practice.

Teams for grades 3-6 will practice twice during the week and play games on Saturdays. Home games will be at Crossett Brook and away games will be at Central Vermont schools such as Barre, Montpelier, Williamstown.

Organizers are looking forward to the season and ask parents to consider volunteering to coach. Previous coaching experience is not a key requirement. “Patience, enthusiasm, and availability are just as important as experience, and many hands make light work and more fun!” their announcement says.

More information and registration are online at go.teamsnap.com/forms/398110. Email questions to Nick Managan at nmanagan@gmail.com.
