UPDATE: Registration will be open through Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Organizers for Waterbury Youth Soccer’s fall program have announced that online registration is open through Sept. 20 for players from kindergarten through sixth grades.

The season is scheduled to start Saturday, Sept. 26, and run five weeks through Oct. 24.

The group’s website, waterburysoccer.com has registration details and information about how this season will be modified based on the State of Vermont’s “Health Guidance for Recreational Sport Programs and Leagues Return-to-Play Guidelines” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organizers acknowledge that while many are excited to return to play, others may be apprehensive. The recreational league is committed to creating a safe environment and minimizing any risk of spreading coronavirus, organizers explain.

Fall practices and games will require parents and caregivers and players to comply with new protocols that call for social distancing and wearing masks as well as the customary conduct guidelines. “If a player, parent/caregiver, or family is not comfortable returning to play or doesn’t feel they can support these protocols – please don’t,” organizers said in their announcement.

Some of the new procedures are for everyone from players to spectators to wear masks at all team activities. Parents are asked to check their player’s temperature beforehand. Activities will be scheduled to reduce congestion at the playing fields.

This season also will be limited to events with residents from Washington County. Games at the grade 3-4 and 5-6 levels will be played with teams just from the Mad River Valley Soccer program. The program guidelines list a variety of sanitizing requirements and reminders about social distancing and other restrictions specific to public health including a limit of one spectator per player at events and advice to players to refrain from “group celebrations, high fives, hugs, handshakes, fist-bumps, etc.”

The program also points out that should public health circumstances change, there could be guidance from the state to pause the season, shift to more restrictive measures or cease altogether.

Registration is $40 per child for the kindergarten program, $45 per child for 1st-2nd grade program, and $55 per child for the 3rd-6th grade program.

Waterbury Youth Soccer is a recreational fall soccer league for players in grades K-6 in Waterbury and surrounding Washington County communities. Waterbury Youth Soccer is affiliated with the Vermont Soccer Association.
