Harwood Athletic Director teases fall sports schedules
June 5, 2020
For the past two weeks, Harwood Union High School Athletic Director Chris Langevin has been tossing out fall sports schedules like breadcrumbs across social media.
It began on May 24 with Twitter and Facebook posts. The first was Girls Soccer. “They will begin their quest for back-to-back D-II Championship appearances on August 29th, as they host GMVS to kick off the 2020-2021 season!” the post cheerfully declared.
Highlander girls made it to the title match last season in which Rice Memorial’s Green Knights prevailed.
The posts are short with colorful single-image photos that list each sports’ fall games, meets, matches.
Langevin followed with Volleyball, Boys Soccer, Field Hockey and Cross-Country (“Which race are you most excited for?”). Still to come are Bass Fishing and Golf.
It doesn’t matter that the Vermont Principals Association hasn’t issued any announcements about fall sports yet. Winter sports stopped short of the final championship games for some sports and spring athletics were called off due to COVID-19 virus precautions.
Langevin said the postings about the fall season are about looking ahead and staying positive.
“I’m contributing to school spirit and giving the kids something to look forward to in the hopes we can come together in the fall and play sports again,” Langevin said. “We will find out this summer the official status. So until we hear otherwise, we are planning on a fall sports season.”
Once all of the schedules are completed and posted on social media, Langevin will post them on the school’s online athletics and events calendar, Harwood.Tandem.co.
