The annual Harwood Basketball Camps run by Varsity Girls Coach Tommy Young recently wrapped up another summer season of basketball instruction with local youngsters in grades 2 through 9.

Young began the camps over 20 years ago, holding them at Harwood Union High School.

This year nearly 70 players participated. Sessions were divided into grades 2-4 boys and girls, grade 5-9 girls, and a grade 5-8 boys group.

The camps help players build skills in elementary and middle school as they look to potentially play at the high school level.

“The camps focus on skills and drills that campers can learn about at camp and take with them to practice throughout the year,” Young said. “The success of our [high school] programs starts with the kids in our feeder programs -- any chance I can get to connect with them is important.”

Fall sign-ups for recreation league basketball will be opening at the end of summer. Anyone with questions about the program or looking for information about other basketball opportunities may contact Young at tyoung@huusd.org.
