Mad River Mentoring seeks adult mentor volunteers

To the Community:

Mad River Mentoring is looking for mentors!

National Mentoring Month is winding down and Jan. 25 is Thank Your Mentor Day. What  better way to thank someone that formally or informally mentored you then to pay it forward. If  you’re looking for a way to give back to your community and you’d like to become part of a  supportive network for local youth, join Mad River Mentoring today!

We are a community-based mentoring program for youth ages 8-18 attending school within the Harwood Union School District and from all of its communities. We provide the opportunity for youth to connect one-on-one with adults and develop supportive relationships.

Research consistently confirms that mentoring relationships promote positive outcomes for youth, families, volunteers and communities. Yet, “Who Mentored You?” a 2023 research report by the MENTOR organization found that while youth in the U.S. are more than twice as likely to have mentors  than youth 30 years ago, a gap still exists where many youth don’t have a mentor. In fact, that  gap is growing. This is especially true for specific groups of vulnerable young people.

Help us continue to bridge that gap and bring mentoring to more youth in our community.

As a mentor you will receive training and resources, access to discounted and free events, as  well as ongoing support from the program manager. You will have the opportunity to share your  experience, hobbies, and interests as well as make a difference in a young person’s life. You’ll  also get to know a young person in our community and learn from them. Mentoring pairs are  matched based on interests and spend four hours per month after-school and/or on weekends  sharing experiences together.

Our goal is to create a community where every young person has adults to support them  wherever they’re at, as they form their identities, achieve their dreams and reach their goals.  Firmly believing in equity, inclusion, and the importance of belonging, we strive to work towards  a peaceful and prosperous future for all of our children.

If you can make a year-long commitment, have a valid driver’s license, and a registered, insured vehicle, and agree to participate in our screening process, apply today on our website  madrivermentoring.org.

If you still have questions or are not quite sure, email info@madrivermentoring.org

Thank you for making a difference,

Kathy Mai, program manager
