To the community:

It is with mixed feelings I share that I will not be running for re-election to the Harwood Unified Union School Board. Serving as your Waterbury representative for the last four years has been a privilege. While I might not have voted or had the same point of view as you, I have always had the best interest of our school, students, and community at the forefront of every vote.

Thank you to all those who believed in me, pushed, and challenged me. I have grown as a person and learned a tremendous amount about how our schools and district functions. As we embark on developing a bond for our high school I am hopeful that the future of our schools and students will be in the best interest with clear leadership, ongoing board work, and a supportive community. Waterbury and Harwood Union School District deserve full representation and engaged representatives at the table.

By announcing this now, I am hopeful that there will be individuals willing to step up and help lead our district. I have the utmost respect and appreciation for all those serving in these roles. Please feel free to reach out to me (khackett@huusd.org) or my fellow Waterbury representatives, Jake Pitman (jpitman@huusd.org), Marlena Tucker-Fishman (mtucker-fishman@huusd.org), or Tori Taravella (vtaravella@huusd.org) with any questions.

If you want to get your name on the ballot in March, please contact Waterbury Town Clerk Karen Petrovic at karen@waterburyvt.com for more information on election procedures. The deadline for a petition with signatures is January 29th to be a candidate on the Waterbury Town Meeting Day ballot.

With much appreciation,

Kelley Hackett
