We’ve made it to the weekend where we spring forward to daylight saving time. A year into the COVID-19 pandemic and there is cause for optimism that life will be shifting back to some version of “normal” in the coming months.

As the days grow longer and mud season unfolds, we are thinking of how far we've come in this unusual pandemic year. Waterbury Roundabout will mark its first anniversary in early May and we're thrilled to be settling in as our community's local news source. It was especially remarkable to see how much everyone went to our Town Meeting Day stories leading up to the March 2 election.

Important pieces are falling into place as we work to make this project sustainable. We are working on securing a new fiscal sponsor to soon help us fundraise by seeking grants and once again offer tax-deductible donations. We’ve also begun adding sponsors to the weekly newsletter.

We love that student reporters are part of our coverage. But we also rely on a handful of professional freelance journalists to produce local news for the Waterbury Roundabout website and the print Waterbury Reader.

If you click ‘Donate’ on our home page, you can make a contribution via PayPal or find our snail-mail address to send a check. We promise to put to good use whatever our readers chip in.

Thanks in advance. Happy (almost) spring. And thank you for reading!
