Fundraiser does double duty for pub & agency

Pub owners thank community for burst of support for fundraiser

To the Community:

On Wednesday, Dec. 30, Blackback Pub partnered with Capstone Community Action to help raise money for food and heat for those in need. What a wonderful community we live in!

By 6 p.m. we had so many take-out orders that we had to shut it down for a bit. Our amazing chef Jamie Nelson along with Naomi Hurlburt in the kitchen had all they could do to keep up but they did it. Naomi actually has been helped by a program for cooking within the Capstone program so this is dear to our hearts.

Our event went from 5 to 9 p.m. and was a huge success. The dining room and bar were once again full to its new Covid-allowed capacity. What a treat to feel some normalcy again.

Thanks to the generosity of the community, we were able to raise $800 for the cause. Thank you to all who participated.

Fundraiser gives pub, fuel program a shot in the arm

To the Community:

Capstone Community Action is so grateful to our friends at Blackback Pub and in the Waterbury community for supporting our Fuel Your Neighbors Campaign.

Last week, Blackback owners Lynn Mason and Dave Juenker offered to donate tips to Capstone’s work to provide crisis heat and food assistance for Central Vermonters in need. In this unprecedented year of COVID-19, this need is greater than ever and we are dedicated to not letting Vermonters have to choose between feeding their family or heating their home this winter.

Blackback raised a hand for Capstone and the Waterbury community extended its hands for a special downtown business that really needs all of our help to survive this pandemic. Thanks to all for paying it forward – both by having great food and drink at Blackback, and generous tips for Capstone!

Huge thanks to Blackback owners, Lynn and Dave, who have been Capstone boosters since they hired a graduate of our Community Kitchen Academy – a program dedicated to creating opportunities for unemployed Central Vermonters into the regional food industry.

What a great community we live in! If you missed it, you still can help at: fuelyourneighbors.org.

If you need food or fuel assistance call Capstone at 1-800-639-1053.
