LETTER: Friends of Waterbury Reservoir invite all to annual meeting Nov. 16

To the community:

The Friends of Waterbury Reservoir would like to invite the community to join us on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for our annual Friends of Waterbury Reservoir Meeting at SunCommon, 442 U.S. Route 2, Waterbury.

We're excited to hold an in-person meeting to talk about the issues regarding the reservoir and to share our accomplishments. All are welcome, and we will serve light refreshments and beverages (you are welcome to bring your own, too). This is your opportunity to learn about and share your insights and concerns about our favorite body of water.

We are hoping to get the event recorded and live-streamed so email us, or check our social media by Nov. 14 for updates and the links for streaming.

Presentations and discussions include:

Our Aquatic Invasive Species Greeter Program: Greeter Coordinator Zach Johnston will talk about the invasive species threatening the reservoir and other greeter experiences inspecting boats and talking one-on-one with users of the reservoir.

Dam Maintenance: Dam Safety Engineer Benjamin Green will share updates about maintenance scheduled for the Waterbury Dam.

Wildlife update: Shelia Goss, vice president of Friends of Waterbury Reservoir will report on our loon project, our fishing-line recycling efforts, and other wildlife updates including the recent rescue of an eagle by Vermont StateParks staff, and how that incident will drive another education effort in 2023.

New ranger: The new on-water State Park Ranger, Ben Foltin, will share his observations and experiences about the happenings this summer on the reservoir.

Shutesville Wildlife Corridor: Kristen Sharpless, executive director of Stowe Land Trust, will present about the Shutesville Wildlife Corridor. This important area is adjacent to the reservoir and is one of the five most important wildlife crossings in Vermont.

We will also debut a wonderful 2023 calendar featuring photos of our reservoir all year round. This calendar will be available for purchase, and we will also introduce the 2023 calendar photo contest!

For additional information, email us at waterburyres@gmail.com

Hope to see you there!
