LETTER: To Washington-2 voters from House candidate Candice White

August 7, 2024

Dear Washington-2 House district residents/voters:

Tuesday, Aug. 13, is the Vermont Democratic and Republican Primary Election. I am a Democrat seeking one of two seats in the Vermont House of Representatives for the Washington-2 District – representing the towns of Waitsfield, Warren, Fayston, Moretown and Duxbury – and I am asking for your vote.

I first came here to ski Sugarbush and Mad River Glen in the late 1990s and became a full-time resident of Waitsfield in 2003. Both my daughter and son attended local public schools, including the Learning Ladder in Duxbury, Waitsfield Elementary, Warren Elementary, Open Hearth, KPAS, and Harwood Middle and High Schools. My daughter graduated from Harwood; my son attended through tenth grade and finished out-of-state. My experience as a parent informs my knowledge of and commitment to our local schools.

My professional background is in communications and management. I worked in magazine publishing for 10 years in Boston and New York before moving to Vermont, where I continued publishing work as a freelance writer and editor. I then served on the executive team at Sugarbush for 10 years, initially as vice president of marketing, then as vice president of communications and guest services.

In 2018, I began a communications consulting practice, continuing work in the ski industry and expanding into the hospitality, childcare and non-profit sectors. I have served on the board of several Vermont non-profits–Waitsfield Elementary School PTA (president 2006), Central Vermont Economic Development Corporation (chair 2017), and the Vermont Women’s Fund (current co-chair). I believe that my ability to communicate effectively, and my experience working in the private and non-profit sectors, prepare me well to be your representative.

I love where we live. The farms, the rivers, the mountains, and the recreational opportunities make this place extraordinary. And the people – you – who farm the land, who work at the ski resorts and restaurants, who build the houses, who teach our children, who protect the lands, who make your art – make our community special. I am committed to preserving the unique character of this community.

We are facing challenges that threaten to fray the fabric of our community–unacceptable property tax increases, more frequent storms and flooding, and decreased housing inventory. These are big problems that will require ALL of us to work together to make choices and find solutions. Vermonters know how to come together in times of need. I know I don’t have all the solutions. But I am committed to listening and learning so I can be prepared to represent our district next session and improve the lives of our community members.

I invite you to follow me on social media. or visit my website to learn more or to share your thoughts. Thank you.

Candice White
