LETTER: The Trump administration is doing illegal things
February 7, 2025 | By Dana Allen
To the Community:
I'd love to not have to write this, but it's times like these that we need to reach out to our local community and urge our neighbors to act.
Simply put, the Trump Administration is doing illegal things. Giving the keys to the Treasury to an unelected, unappointed, unvetted private citizen is not legal. I would NEVER get that access – why should someone who made up a department get it, even if they are absurdly wealthy? Not legal. Not ethical. Not democratic.
Ruling by Executive Order and memos – unvetted, undiscussed, without regard for disastrous consequences is also not legal – nor is it even remotely approaching good governance. You would not accept this at the local level – why accept this at the national level?
I understand that the American people voted for change but pulling the rug out from millions of citizens and giving power to unelected billionaires isn't even close to what the Constitution has in mind.
So this isn't just a rant – that's useless (We have Facebook for useless rants). This is a call to action: Please reach out to your elected officials. I understand that our elected officials are aligned with what I'm saying here AND they still need to hear from you. They need to show that their electorate won't take this lying down. Write them emails. Call them. Weigh in. Democracy dies in a vacuum. Don't be that vacuum.
I'm gonna make it easy. Here are links to contact each of the Vermont Congressional delegation members:
U.S. Rep. Becca Balint
Thanks for taking the time. It matters. And if you feel so inclined, start looking around Waterbury for ways you can get involved in local and regional government. That's important, too.
Cheers neighbors. Be well.
