LETTER: Ending school board term, Taravella looks to join select board
February 19, 2025
To the Community:
My name is Tori Taravella. I am running for a one-year term on the Waterbury Select Board. I have had the privilege of serving as a representative on the Harwood Union School Board for the past three years, and I am currently serving as Rotarian President for the Waterbury Rotary. While it was a difficult decision to leave the amazing people who make up the HUUSD School Board, I felt it was time to focus my efforts more locally.
I truly care for our community in Waterbury and want to help. I have seen the struggles of the housing shortage, rising rent prices, and the need for affordable housing. I also understand the stress taxes have taken on our community and know we need to find a sustainable solution for our communities to handle any future floods that may come our way. I hope you choose to vote for me for a one-year term this Town Meeting Day.
I also encourage anyone considering running for the school board to do so. There is an amazing group of people working to ensure the best schooling possible for our students while juggling the complicated funding formulas from the state. They can’t do it alone though and they need help. Whether you have children or not, whether you work or are retired, different perspectives always bring valuable input. While I do not have any children, I often found that having an unbiased viewpoint was extremely helpful, especially when discussing the tough decisions we have had to make when forming a budget for all the voters.
If you have any questions for me about running for school board, or what I hope to accomplish as a select board member, please reach out with an email to vtaravella1@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
