My name is Corey Hackett and I am running to fill the remaining two years for a Waterbury seat on the Harwood Unified Union School District School Board. I have served on the board for the past year following my appointment to fill a vacant Waterbury seat. I also serve on the board for the Central Vermont Career Center as a HUUSD representative.

My wife and I are lifelong Vermonters, and I moved to Waterbury 21 years ago and fell in love with the community. We are raising our three children who have gone through the Harwood school system: currently a senior and a sophomore at Harwood Union High School and a fourth grader at Brookside Primary School.

I joined the school board last year through the appointment process after seeing three Waterbury board seats had remained vacant. Through my continued remote attendance while my wife served on the board as a member and co-chair for the prior four years, I had an understanding of how our district operated and the issues that were on the table. With this understanding and knowledge, I was able to hit the ground running, bringing a voice for community engagement and opening channels of awareness. These will continue to be a priority for me.

While I am not an education expert, I strongly feel we need to support our children’s education. I believe our communities' backbone is our children and our schools. As a community, we rally around our school sports, performances, and clubs. We take pride in wearing our school colors and supporting our students and schools. Along with the beauty of our state, these are the reasons people move here.

I encourage more community members to participate in joining the board or other local boards in our community as it truly takes a village and many hands make light work.

Thank you for supporting your students, our schools, and me.

Sincerely,

Corey Hackett
