LETTER: Is lawn care harming pollinators?

To the Community:

I would be interested in reading a community discussion about the dangers – or lack thereof – of the application of herbicides and insecticides on (monocultural) grass lawns.

I'm especially interested in the effects on our groundwater and local fauna.

I have recently noticed the little white signs, warning humans and their pets to stay off treated lawns, for the first time ever here in Waterbury. After doing some research about TruGreen Lawn Care, the company that placed the signs, I read about a lawsuit against the company (which was formerly called ChemLawn Lawn Care) because of misleading claims about the toxicity of their products.

I hope some local biologists and naturalists would comment.
