Flood Update | Sept. 20

CReW hosts session to share ideas on flood-proofing

September 20, 2024 | By Waterbury Roundabout

Waterbury’s long-term flood recovery group CReW will hold a special meeting Wednesday, Sept. 25, for home and building owners to share their flood-proofing ideas and stories.

They ask those whose properties are in flood-prone areas that experienced flooding in the past year:

Did you do something smart that helped reduce water risk in and around your home?

Did you move your heating system to the first floor, strengthen your foundation, or install a permanent sump pump or French drains?

What kinds of things have you done, or have considered doing?

CReW will host a community conversation for people to share their ideas (and questions) with neighbors.

“We're looking to make a big list of all the things folks can do to make their homes more resilient to water, and we know many people in our community have tried a lot of different things,” explained CReW Vice Chair Liz Schlegel.

CReW – Community Resilience for the greater Waterbury area – serves residents of Waterbury, Duxbury, Bolton, Moretown and Middlesex.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Waterbury Main Street fire station. CReW members will have refreshments and note-takers, Schlegel said.

Please do not park at the fire station – street parking and 51 S. Main St. are available.

The session will also be available via Zoom using this link. Meeting ID: 993 7301 6806.

Passcode: 564834
