Main St. Construction | May 28-June 4
OVERALL IMPACTS
Memorial Day weekend: Construction will wrap-up by noon Friday, May 28, and will resume Tuesday, June 1.
Flaggers and pedestrian crossers will be present where construction is taking place.
Watch for changing work locations and traffic patterns.
Special note: Stowe Street Dry Bridge
In a town-funded project being done by J.A. McDonald, work continues to refurbish the Dry Bridge on lower Stowe Street. The bridge will be open for the holiday weekend but will close again for final prep and paving, June 1-2 (weather depending).
On Tuesday, June 1, the bridge will be closed around the clock; primer and membrane will be installed. On Wednesday, June 2, a tack coat will be applied to the membrane, the bridge will be paved and likely reopened by the end of the work day. Vehicles and pedestrians will be able to access the lower portion of Stowe Street and businesses are open.
Segment 1. North Main Street between railroad bridge and Stowe Street
Sidewalk work continues on North Main Street from the railroad bridge towards the downtown core. The schedule for concrete depends on weather. Be prepared to be flexible these next few weeks as the work crew progresses by each property. Forms will be in place for newly poured sidewalks.
Residents are asked to communicate with workers if they are blocking a driveway so they can make accommodations. When new concrete is poured, vehicles will need to park off site for several days until the concrete has cured. Parking is available at the municipal office building and library. Neighbors are encouraged to coordinate to share parking.
Businesses affected will have temporary pedestrian access while the concrete cures.
Walkways to each property are being prepped and poured.
A foundation for an informational kiosk will be installed at the Bidwell Lane-Stowe Street intersection once the Dry Bridge work is completed.
Segment 2. South Main Street between Stowe Street and Park Street
New concrete sidewalks are scheduled to be poured in several different locations. Pedestrian access will be limited temporarily.
Access to Northfield Savings Bank will be from Elm Street while the driveway on Main Street is closed.
Businesses will retain pedestrian access using bridged walkways over newly poured concrete.
Residents and business owners are asked to communicate with workers if they are blocking a driveway so they can make accommodations. When new concrete is poured, vehicles will need to park off site for several days until the concrete has cured.
A kiosk foundation is being installed near the former TD Bank parking area.
Vehicles will not be able to drive over newly poured concrete across driveways for several days. Alternate access and parking will need to be arranged during this time. Signage will be available where needed.
The schedule for sidewalk installation is dependent on weather. Be prepared to be flexible these next few weeks as the work crew progresses by each property.
