UPDATED Aug. 5
Final paving on Main Street and affected side streets is under way and is ahead of schedule. Here is an update with important reminders from Waterbury's Transportation Liaison Barb Farr.
Thursday, Aug. 5 (afternoon)
1. Much of the side street paving along Main Street has been completed today.
2. No thru traffic on side streets allowed at the time of paving and until cooled down enough to drive over. Flaggers will be present to direct traffic
2. This afternoon - Paving at the entrance to Foundry Street and Winooski Street. No parking along the area to be paved. Seek alternate routes around.
3. Tomorrow morning - Friday - Paving at the entrances to Stowe Street and Elm Street. No parking along the area to be paved. Seek alternate routes around.
4. Parking is ok on Main Street now except the intersections with side streets where final paving is taking place.
5. Clean up work and punch list items remain.
6. The steps and sidewalk at the Reservoir and the Salon next door will be coming in the next few weeks.
Thanks to the efficiency of work by McDonald and the paving crew, the schedule for next week is much less disruptive.

Thursday, Aug. 5 (morning):
SIDE STREETS: Paving and line striping is scheduled to take place on side streets today, Aug. 5. There will be no on-street parking for side streets scheduled to be paved. VEHICLES WILL BE TOWED. Side street paving will start at State Drive and head towards the roundabout on both sides of Main Street. The side streets will be closed when paving and line striping are taking place. Access to drive over the newly paved areas may take up to 2 hours. Plan trips in and out accordingly.
WINOOSKI STREET: Access to Winooski Street while paving takes place will be temporarily directed to go through the ballfields at Dac Rowe.
Expect delays and one-way traffic on Main Street where paving is taking place.
Businesses and sidewalks will be open but access may be temporarily delayed or you can use an alternate access point.
Topsoil and seeding touchups will continue where needed throughout the project.
In Segments 3 and 4 (east end of the project past the State Office Complex) they will be removing and replacing sections of the sidewalk and red stamped concrete in various locations.
Paving is expected to be completed this week, ahead of schedule.
Wednesday, Aug. 4:
The paving along the main stem of Main Street went well on Tuesday thanks to an all-hands on deck approach for keeping the process moving smoothly and efficiently. The weather helps, too. A few things to keep in mind during this traffic disruption:
1. Please do not park cars on Main Street this week. The crew starts early in the morning and needs ALL cars off of Main Street.
2. No parking on the side streets where the milling or base layer has occurred. This means they will be paving these areas after the main stem is completed later this week and into next week.
3. If your car is towed, it will be located at the State Office Complex off of Park Row, where the Stanley-Wasson Hall buildings were recently taken down.
4. Wednesday, Aug. 4, paving will take place on the right side of Main Street starting from the roundabout area. Access in and out of driveways will be delayed as paving progresses down the street.
5. Depending on where you live or work, you may want to find an alternate parking spot away from the areas to be paved if you need to get in and out frequently.
6. Expect more traffic delays.
7. Access from driveway to drive over the newly paved areas takes about 45 minutes in the morning in the cooler weather and 1.5 hours in the afternoon when the temperature is higher. Plan your trips in and out of accordingly.
8. If there is an emergency of any kind when paving is occurring directly in front of your property, notify a crew member on the ground immediately and access accommodations will be made. Health and safety first.
This is the final push of construction before the end of the project. Thanks for hanging in there. A community celebration and ribbon cutting is planned for Friday, Aug. 27, at 5 p.m. More details and invitation will follow.
