Local flooding update

3 p.m.

U.S. 2 in Middlesex neaer Lower Barnett Hill Road is closed due to flooding.

2:45 p.m.

In DUXBURY: River Road is closed in two sections - between the Winooski Street bridge and Main Street, and from Camels Hump Road to the Bolton town line.

2 p.m.

  • Waterbury Congregational Church will be open for anyone unhoused needing shelter tonight.

Noon

  • Interstate 89 northbound just north of Exit 8/Montpelier is down to one lane due to water damage. Crews are working in the area. Drive with caution.

  • Due to flooding in Washington County, Green Mountain Transit is suspending ALL Washington County bus service (including MyRide) until further notice. We will continue to update on service resumption; please see https://ow.ly/V6TE50P7Hpf for the most current information.

10:45 a.m.

Little River Road in Waterbury is closed to the state park.

10 a.m.

One road closure reported in Waterbury (below, Lincoln St. Extension). According to Public Works Director Bill Woodruff, the Thatcher Brook is higher than expected this morning and approaching a point where it may spill onto Vermont Route 100 near Guptil Road. Ballfields at Dac Rowe Park were beginning to flood.

The Winooski River at 10 a.m. was just below its flood stage.


From the National Weather Service on Monday morning:

Continuing rounds of heavy rain are expected to produce widespread flash flooding today into tonight. We have already received reports of washed out roads, with more to come. This is a potentially life-threatening situation. Please remain alert today, especially if you live, work, or travel in flood prone areas.


LOCAL ROADS CLOSED as of 3 p.m.

  • U.S. 2 in Middlesex neaer Lower Barnett Hill Road is closed due to flooding.

  • DUXBURY: River Road is closed in two sections - between the Winooski Street bridge and Main Street, and from Camels Hump Road to the Bolton town line.

  • River Road (to the Ice Center) on the Waterbury side of the Winooski River is closed.

  • Little River Road in Waterbury is closed to the state park.

  • Lincoln Street Extension and the Park and Ride lot in Waterbury are CLOSED due to high water.

  • U.S. Route 2 in Middlesex between Lower Sunny Brook Road and Cross Road is reopened as of noon.


CLOSINGS | CANCELLATIONS | COMMUNITY UPDATES

MEALS ON WHEELS: Deliveries have been canceled today, according to the Waterbury Senior Center.

GREEN MOUNTAIN PERFORMING ARTS: No classes today due to the weather and rising river level near the studio.

WATERBURY PUBLIC LIBRARY is closing at 5 p.m. today.

THE ICE CENTER will not have stick and puck activities on Tuesday. Access road is closed and the center is closed for the day Monday as well.
