As Vermont starts the day, everyone is assessing their situation from yesterday and last night’s flooding. In Waterbury, water remains high in many parts of downtown and low-lying areas along U.S. Route 2.

Here at Waterbury Roundabout, we are very grateful for everyone sending us photos and information and we are working to process it all today. This post will be updated throughout the day, so please check back for more. Send new information to us at waterburyroundabout@gmail.com.

Here is some of what we are learning this morning.

SPECIAL SELECT BOARD MEETING AT NOON

In person at the town offices and via Zoom. Here is the agenda and link. No coordinated volunteer efforts are under way yet as there is still high water in many places. Information on cleanup will be forthcoming.

The public is encouraged to attend virtually to avoid driving into downtown Waterbury.

WASTEWATER NOTE

Edward Farrar Utility District wastewater operators are asking customers to temporarily lessen the amount of materials disposed of as a preemptive measure due to the increased flows at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The system has been inundated with volumes many times its usual flow and capacity.

Examples of this include – shorter/no showers, no laundry loads and fewer flushes. Any and all measures are greatly appreciated. The State Office Complex, one large user on the system, for example is closed today.

CHILD CARE AVAILABLE AT BROOKSIDE PRIMARY SCHOOL

From Principals Sarah Schoolcraft and Chris Neville: Brookside Primary School is offering drop-in childcare for community members impacted by flooding. We know that there are many phone calls, contacts, clean up and planning that needs to occur for many of you and this is one way we can support our amazing community.

We also have nonperishable food and water that is available which we will have available to anyone in need. Please come to the gym anytime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. today.  All ages welcome - please bring any supplies that your child will need during the time.

FOR WEDNESDAY: Child care will be offered 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nonperishable food and water will have available to anyone in need.  Check in at the gym. Children ages 0-2 will be welcome along with preschoolers and older children.
