Equipment spilling out of a moving truck on Interstate 89 littered the roadway on the southbound lanes just past the Waterbury exit on Wednesday morning, damaging multiple vehicles but causing no injuries to any motorists, according to Vermont State Police.
The incident happened at approximately 6:15 a.m. near mile marker 63.4, Trooper Jae Farnum-Boylan reported in a press release afterward.
Troopers from the Berlin barracks responded and found that a Ryder truck traveling southbound lost multiple metal auto part cages with their contents spilling onto the roadway, causing a traffic hazard, police said.
Many vehicles pulled off to the shoulder with drivers from eight reporting damage, Trooper Farnum-Boylan said. None of the motorists were injured.
“Most vehicles had popped tires, and one had minor damage to the side paneling around a wheel well,” Farnum-Boylan said.
Personnel from the Vermont Agency of Transportation also responded and cleared the debris from the roadway.
If any motorists discover vehicle damage related to the incident that they need to report, they should contact the Berlin barracks at 802-229-9191.
Officials said the driver of the truck carrying the items did stop to report the incident.
