Early voting for Aug. 11 primary is open

June 28, 2020 | By Waterbury Roundabout

Early ballots are now available for the August 11 primary election to decide party nominees for Congress, statewide offices including governor and lieutenant governor and all legislative seats.

Due to ongoing public health concerns, elections officials are encouraging voters to cast ballots early by requesting an absentee ballot from the town clerk’s office by phone or email.

Voters will receive three ballots by mail, one each for the Democratic, Progressive and Republican primary candidates.

Waterbury Town Clerk Carla Lawrence explained the procedure: “They must choose only one to vote on and place the voted ballot in a certificate envelope which they sign and date. The two unvoted ballots must be placed in an envelope labeled ‘Unvoted Ballots.’”

All ballots are to be returned in a postage-paid envelope. Voting will also be held in person 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 11. Elections officials in Waterbury and Duxbury are working to finalize details for where and how the polls will be set up on election day.

For more information and to request an early ballot, Waterbury voters should contact Lawrence at 244-8447 or email to clawrence@waterburyvt.com.

In Duxbury, voters should contact Town Clerk Maureen Harvey at 244-6660 or email to DUXTC@myfairpoint.net.
