A state police patrol to seek out distracted and aggressive drivers, enforce DUI laws and promote safe driving at the start of the holiday weekend resulted in 15 traffic stops on Friday and tickets for nine drivers.

Vermont State Police said the patrol took place with two troopers between 5:15 p.m. and midnight on Interstate 89 between Berlin and Montpelier and also in Waterbury village.

Troopers stopped 15 drivers, police said. Nine were issued tickets and nine were issued written warnings.

Some highlights:

  • One driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence.

  • Two drivers were ticketed for traveling in excess of 85 mph.

  • Two drivers were ticketed for driving without insurance and one received a ticket for driving without a license.

  • One driver received a ticket for running a stop sign.

State police remind motorists to drive responsibly by having a sober driver, keeping a safe distance between vehicles, putting phones down, and keeping their heads up while driving, especially with increased traffic this holiday weekend.
