Students and teachers from Harwood Union High School’s Rwanda Travel Study program will share stories from their recent trip to Africa at a special community event at Zenbarn on Sunday, April 16.
The students will share multimedia project presentations and discuss their three-week trip in February and March to Rwanda that involved home stays and visits with school students and to cultural centers.

Since 2004, students from Harwood have traveled to Rwanda as a cultural exchange project with an emphasis on recording experiences and learning through writing, photography and videography. Harwood English teacher Steve Rand has organized the trips which have not taken place since 2018 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and an earlier ebola outbreak in Africa.

Nearly 30 students took part this year with several Harwood teachers.

They will share their experiences in presentations titled “Rwandan Stories of Hope,” from 4 to 6 p.m. next Sunday at Zenbarn in Waterbury. The event is free although food and drinks will be available for purchase.
