Vermont Historical Society offers two summer student fellowships

The Vermont Historical Society is accepting applications through May 15 for two summer fellowships open to high school and undergraduate university students with opportunities to assist with research on Italian-American history in Barre and Vermont women’s history.

The scholars chosen for the fellowships will provide some important work for the Vermont Historical Society. Past examples of intern work include collections videos (Grappa Bottle, Sputum Flask, Samplers, Jack Jumper, Perkins Ski Boots), exhibits at the museum, and articles for the society’s member magazine, History Connections. 

Lorenzini Fellowship

The Lorenzini fellow will work during the summer of 2023 to support staff in the Leahy Library in processing, organizing, researching, and making accessible collections related to Italian-American history in Barre. 

Work will be performed in person at the Vermont History Center in Barre, at a schedule and a time worked out between the fellow and the library for a total of approximately 100 hours between June and August.

The fellow will produce a final work product available to the public at the end of their time. Applicants must be currently enrolled students at a high school or undergraduate level. A stipend of $1,500 is available for this fellowship.

Geiger Fellowship

The Geiger Women’s History fellow will work during the summer of 2023 to support staff in the Collections & Access Department to research, write, and produce biographies of Vermont women for potential inclusion into the Vermont Women’s History Database. 

Work will be performed in person at the Vermont History Center in Barre at a schedule and a time worked out between the fellow and the library for a total of approximately 100 hours between June and August.

The fellow will produce a final work product available to the public at the end of their time. Applicants must be currently enrolled students at a high school or undergraduate level. A stipend of $1,500 is available for this fellowship.
