The Waterbury Grange Hall Cultural Center welcomes a new exhibition this week that will run through late October titled “Lifting the Veil.”

Presented by Across Roads Center for the Arts the show will feature work by a group of artists around the theme of the connection of the living through art, memory, and artifacts with those who have “crossed the veil” into whatever the next state may be.

An opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. The show will be on view through Friday, Oct. 25, when a multi-media dance party closing celebration is planned starting at 7 p.m.

Curated by Vermont artist and art educator Anne Cummings along with the Across Roads Center for the Arts Board of Directors, the exhibition is sponsored by the Grange Hall Cultural Center.

Cummings introduces “Lifting the Veil” saying that it aims to “create a space through the art installation and events which is positive, comforting and caring in exploring the ways we interpret the veil between the world of the living and the world of the lived, and to share in the healing process.”

Artists whose work is featured in the show are: Sarah Vogelsang-Card of Waterbury; Cynthia Cagle of South Burlington; Anne Cummings of Westford; EveNSteve – Eve O. and Stephen Schaub – of Wells, Vermont; J. Bennett, of Maumee, Ohio; and Ian Babylon from Quincy, Massachusetts.

Over the next several weeks, the artists will be presenting workshops and performances, and community members will be invited to share memories of ancestors and family legacies through photos, writings, or objects, as part of the installation and join in a culminating celebratory event. The closing celebration will feature performances connecting to a variety of cultural traditions, beliefs and values centered around honoring ancestors as well as nurturing and healing the living.

The exhibit will be open to the public Fridays through Sundays, noon to 6 p.m., and by appointment. For more information or appointments, email granghallcc@gmail.com or call 802-244-4168.

The Grange Hall Cultural Center is located at 317 Howard Avenue in Waterbury Center.
