Town boards, commissions need members

April 11, 2025 | By Waterbury Roundabout

April is the time of year when terms on the town’s volunteer boards and commissions typically expire and the Waterbury Select Board is looking to fill many of the upcoming openings at its April 21 meeting.

More than 20 positions are available on seven local boards.

There is a short application form for interested candidates to complete along with submitting a brief letter of interest. Candidates are then asked to attend if possible the board meeting when appointments will be considered.

Depending on the number of candidates for each position, the select board may ask volunteers what their second choice may be in order to fill all of the vacancies.

For the upcoming round of appointments, candidates are asked to submit applications by noon on Friday, April 18.

The following positions are available:

  • Five seats on the Conservation Commission

  • Four seats on the Development Review Board

  • Two positions on the Housing Task Force (seeking current renters to balance out the board membership)

  • Two positions on the new Natural Disaster Preparedness Committee

  • Two seats on the Planning Commission

  • Four seats on the Recreation Committee

  • Three spots on the Tree Board

Learn more about each board and commission on the town website, WaterburyVt.com under the Boards and Meetings heading. Current board members are listed along with meeting schedules, agendas, minutes and other pertinent information about each body.

Contact Municipal Manager Tom Leitz for more information about the appointment process at 802-244-4300 or tleitz@waterburyvt.com.
