Curious about what happens at MakerSphere’s new workshop on Route 2 just outside of Waterbury? The woodworking shop and craft studio there are busy with programs for all ages offering opportunities for experienced craftspeople to work and instruction for those looking to learn and sharpen their skills.
On Saturday, April 26, the staff at MakerSphere invite the community to an open house at the Wood Shop & Maker Space from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Located at 327 U.S. Route 2 in Moretown (just across the river from the Ice Center), the facility includes a fully outfitted woodworking shop and a stained-glass studio.
Tour the space at the open house and learn about the classes, workshops and memberships that are available for woodworkers and stained-glass artists.
Before opening the new facility, MakerSphere surveyed the community a few years ago and it was clear that there was strong community interest in a wood shop. MakerSphere set out to find a suitable location and has since leased the former Ray’s Auto Body Shop.

Volunteers made a significant investment in equipment and labor to prepare the 2,500 sq. ft. space. The shop now includes a well-equipped wood shop with a table saw, band saws, miter saw, jointer, planers, drill press, sanding station, routers, nail guns and plenty of hand tools. In addition, a stained-glass studio now occupies the old spray booth, which provides ideal lighting for this craft.
MakerSphere views the facility as an important resource for the community. Through classes and memberships, community members have access to space and tools that they may not otherwise have. MakerSphere welcomes those looking to learn trade skills, hobbyists and do-it-yourself homeowners to visit and use the workshop and glass studio for a wide variety of projects.
One wood shop member recently shared, “I have loved the classes I’ve taken at the MakerSphere shop. I’ve gained skills and confidence in using the tools necessary to make things that are both functional and beautiful. Shop instructors are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.”
