Central Vermont Runners is planning the 27th Annual Mutt Strut for Sunday, April 27, at Little River State Park in Waterbury.
Billed as “a fun 3-mile jog with your dog” the event will benefit the nonprofit Potter's Angels Rescue, a New England animal rescue based in Barre.
The beneficiary is new this year, according to event organizer Maryellen Copping. Potter's Angels will have both human and canine representatives at the Mutt Strut, she said. The humans will be there to answer questions about their operation and adopting dogs. They also will have along several dogs available for adoption (and willing to participate in the strut).
The event begins at 10 a.m. at the state park. Registration is open now by mail and online with a fee of $10 in advance. The fee is $15 for those who sign up the day of the event.
Some rules: All dogs must have a current rabies vaccine and be on leash. All participants must sign a waiver. And runners both with and without dogs are welcome to take part.
Prizes are awarded in several categories based on dog size and owner age/gender. Refreshments will be provided for both runners and their canine partners.
See the event website to sign up and for more information including past results. Contact Maryellen Copping with questions at melcopping@gmail.com.
