Together we can make this holiday season a little brighter for our neighbors. The annual Waterbury Giving Tree program begins this Saturday, Nov.  21 and runs through Dec. 10.

Due to COVID-19 protocols, it will look a bit different this year. The tree will be displayed in the vestibule at the Waterbury Public Library where community members can come by during curbside pickup hours to select a tag from the tree to help make a gift purchase for a child in the community.

Hours are Monday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday 3-6 p.m.; Wednesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Tags hung on the tree will include the age, gender, sizes and special wishes for an anonymous child in our area. When choosing a tag, please practice social distancing and wear a mask, which is required during curbside service.

Purchased gifts should be returned to the Wesley United Methodist Church at 56 South Main St. at the side door.  Santa's elf will be there to receive them on Saturday, Dec. 5, and Saturday Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon and between 2-4 p.m. The final day to drop off gifts is Monday, Dec. 14, between 10 a.m. and noon and 2-4 p.m.

Those who might like to participate but prefer not to shop may make a monetary gift in person at the library or mail to the Waterbury Community Bank branch at 994 Waterbury-Stowe Road, Waterbury, VT 05676. Santa's Elf will gladly do the shopping.

Almy Landauer is the director of the Waterbury Public Library.
